Embedded M2M Solutions - TMCnet's Embedded M2M Week in Review

Interesting week in the embedded M2M space, lots happening:

TMC’s (News - Alert) Rajani Baburajan wrote that AnyDATA Corporation, a global manufacturer of wireless devices for network operators and OEMs, announced its association with the Sprint (News - Alert) M2M Collaboration Center.

With this association, AnyDATA is joining other members, equipment providers, customers and employees to prototype, test and launch wireless product concepts and new ideas. Wireless modules such as DTW-200D (1XRTT) and DTW-500D (EVDO Rev A) will be supported by AnyDATA (News - Alert) at the Sprint M2M Collaboration Center. The company will also feature and support other key products which enable wireless connectivity.

The DTW module's small form factor enables product development opportunities within verticals including asset and people tracking, ATM/point-of-sale, digital signage, fleet and telematics, healthcare, insurance, manufacturing and logistics, public safety, remote monitoring and control, security, smart grid/utilities and wireless routers and modems.

Also this week Rahul Arora reported that Sprint unveiled its new name – Sprint Open Solutions Conference – for its annual developer conference to be held Nov. 2-4, in Santa Clara, Calif. The Sprint Open Solutions Conference will include hands-on coding sessions, breakout sessions, event sponsor exhibits, town hall meetings, keynote presentations from industry leaders and networking opportunities for developers.

“The wireless industry is experiencing exponential growth and is enabling new and innovative solutions every day in virtually all industries, including connected transportation, healthcare, consumer electronics and entertainment,” said Kevin McGinnis, vice president-Product, Sprint. “The Sprint Open Solutions Conference is designed to showcase the robust tools and resources Sprint has available to developers and to bring its applications and solutions to market in the M2M, enterprise or consumer space.”

Sprint will enlighten developers about its open enablement strategy, creating applications for 4G and 3D, enterprise machine-to-machine (M2M) solutions, go-to-market strategies, approaches to make developers more profitable, and current Sprint tools and capabilities across devices, networks and platforms.

And this week TMC’s Carrie Schmelkin wrote that just a few weeks ago, Sprint – in an effort to further establish itself as a leading provider of embedded M2M solutions – unveiled its Sprint Command Center, a centralized, secure, self-service portal offering unprecedented control over machine-to-machine (M2M) devices and services.

“Companies are starting to embrace the world of Machine-to-Machine (M2M) as a way to drive productivity, reduce costs, add safety and provide a better overall end-user experience,” Geoff S. Martin of the Sprint Emerging Solutions Group told TMCnet. “Simply put, M2M is the connecting of everyday things together by using wireless technology. The exponential growth in this area has also created the realization that to properly manage their solutions business customers require a different set of tools.”

The Sprint Command Center will serve as an integrated platform designed to help businesses manage services through a secure Web portal or direct API access while simultaneously leveraging existing enterprise applications to control devices and services. The Command Center will enable businesses to control provisioning, billing, management and solution/application development of their own M2M solutions.
