Following a great M2M Evolution event at ITEXPO (News - Alert) East 2012 in Miami, Fla., last week, it is no big surprise that the embedded M2M solutions space was buzzing with news this week following the communications conference.
Kicking off this week, TMCnet shed some light on one of the most popular sessions at M2M Evolution last week, “Remote Patient Care: No Longer Out of Sight or Out of Mind.” The standing room only session explored how M2M technology can help bring peace of mind to those caretakers who are responsible for individuals with Alzheimer’s.
As shared in the session, one of the scariest things about the disease is that at any moment a person might wander away and never return. In fact, if you look at overall statistics, half of those people with Alzheimer’s will wander and of those that don’t come back in 24 hours up to half will suffer serious injury or death.
“They are going to have to rely on us to be their caregiver, to have somebody go in and watch them every day, and for most families this is not feasible,” Steve Hudson, chief development officer at Omnilink, said to a packed room.
Fortunately for those out there dealing with dementia, Omnilink offers advanced location tracking devices and software – one of the most effective ways to help protect people that are prone to wander. Thanks to these technologies, caregivers can help ensure that persons with Alzheimer’s or other forms of dementia remain in designated “safe zones” or are easily located if they do wander from these areas.
