Embedded M2M Solutions - Linyang Electronics Integrates Cinterion's Tiny BGS2 into its Power Solutions

China’s Linyang Electronics is going to integrate Cinterion’s (News - Alert) miniature BGS2 modules into its smart metering products and power utilization management terminals to realize secure wireless data communications.

According to Cinterion, its BGS2 is the smallest LGA wireless module based on the latest generation of 2G products offering full voice capabilities and high speed GPRS data transmission and it is users’ all-rounder of choice for machine-to-machine communication including metering, security, vending, POS and many more applications.

These M2M modules are to be fitted in Linyang products and services that help in conserving energy, automatic meter reading to simplify reporting and billing procedures, smart grid equipment monitoring and anti-theft and alarm applications to protect assets in the field.

Some of the notable features of the M2M modules are quad-band 2G; full voice support; TCP/IP stack access via AT commands; mounting by solderable pins with no screws, no spacer; highly compact size; extended operating temperature range of -40° to +85°C; and more.

Recently China has been investing billions of dollars in procuring smart grid solutions that enable more efficient distribution of electricity throughout the country and Linyang Electronics won a bid to supply over 44 million smart meter units to the State Grid Corporation of China (SGCC).

Cinterion’s high-quality M2M modules, advanced security expertise and outstanding design and engineering support are cited as reasons by Linyang for selecting Cinterion as a partner. The BGS2 modules are considered reliable even the most extreme temperatures, it is cost-effective, and it provides highly efficient Land Grid Array surface mounting for easy and precise mass manufacturing – all of these features supposedly help strengthen Linyang’s bids for smart metering contracts throughout China.

“The smart meter and smart grid market has clearly become a significant portion of the rapidly-growing M2M market in China. The quality and reliability of our products is very much appreciated by our customers, and definitely a key decision criterion in that segment. We are pleased to be a trusted partner of Linyang Electronics, and we’re committed to expanding the smart energy applications throughout China and the rest of the world, to optimize power utilization and contribute our innovative solutions to energy conservation,” stated Norbert Muhrer (News - Alert), CEO of Cinterion.
