Embedded M2M Solutions - TMCnet's Embedded M2M Solutions Week in Review

Rounding up some of the top embedded M2M news for the week, TMC reported that Sylectus, a business unit of Qualcomm (News - Alert) Enterprise Services, recently announced that it would work together with MacroPoint to offer Sylectus customers a fleet tracking solution that enables trucking companies to improve their performance and keep their costs low.

By using MacroPoint mobile fleet management technology, fleet owners, managers, freight brokers, carriers and third-party logistics providers will be able to track the location of their loads and drivers, without requiring any new hardware requirements or long-term contracts. Anna M. Hanna, president of Whirlwind Express, LLC and Sylectus customer, said, “MacroPoint offers our company an easy-to-use, highly accurate and financially smart tracking system.

This program greatly reduces the time it takes to track our drivers and loads, allowing us to be more efficient and responsive to the needs of our customers.”

TMC (News - Alert) also had the news that inthinc Technology Solutions (News - Alert) Inc. is responsible for providing an advanced range of fleet management and driver safety solutions to some of the biggest mining corporations in the world. The company solutions have been tailored to address all compliance requirements even within some of the most difficult and remote environments.

In a release, Bruce Huber, former senior director of Safety and Health at Barrick Gold Corporation, said that, “The inthinc system has changed driver behaviors in several areas. Seat belts are now in use; speeding has been eliminated and aggressive driving has been dramatically reduced.”

inthinc’s waySmart solution has been designed as a robust fleet management and driver safety solution which enables fleet managers to easily monitor driver behavior through options such as GPS-based vehicle and trip tracking and in-cab verbal coaching alerts.

And TMC’s Jacqueline Lee wrote for us to imagine walking into a private booth at a pharmacy, supermarket or workplace and connecting with a doctor via Sprint’s (News - Alert) 4G network. You can have the medical care that you need long after most doctors’ offices have closed. If you live in a rural or underserved area, then you can have access to doctors over a videoconferencing connection.

While this may sound like the stuff of science fiction, Sprint and HealthSpot have teamed up to deliver a real-life virtual health care solution called the Care4 Station. Digital devices inside the booth allow doctors to collect important health information, while prescription information, video, prescriptions and appointment scheduling can be transmitted over Sprint’s wireless network. The videoconference will be in real time and will feature HD technology.
