Embedded M2M Solutions - Laird Technologies Releases Android 2.3 Gingerbread Support for Summit 40 Series Radio Modules

Laird Technologies (News - Alert), a designer and supplier of components and systems for advanced electronics and wireless products, stated that its Summit 40 Series radio modules now feature Android (News - Alert) 2.3 Gingerbread support.

Chris Bolinger, product director at Laird Technologies remarked, “Business-critical mobile devices such as handheld mobile computers are beginning to run Android instead of Windows Embedded Handheld or Windows Embedded Compact. 40 Series radio modules now offer the same proven enterprise-grade features on both Windows and Android.”

Laird claimed that its hardware maximizes the RF range, supports an extended operating temperature range, and minimizes power consumption. The company’s Summit 40 radio modules blend dual-band N (802.11a/b/g/n) radio with a Bluetooth 2.1 radio in an integrated package and is capable of delivering an enterprise-class solution that ensures secure and reliable connectivity for a medical device, a mobile computer, or any other business-critical mobile device.

These radio modules are now equipped to offer secure connectivity in 2.4 and 5 GHz frequency bands, accelerated roaming between access points, certified Cisco (News - Alert) Compatible Extensions v4 support, and facilitated configuration/management using Summit Client Utility (SCU). The Summit 40 radio modules also leverage SCU to configure and manage Bluetooth profiles and arm administrators with a single interface to Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.

Summit 40 Series radio modules also support Linux kernel version 2.6.37, Windows Embedded Handheld 6 and 7, and Windows Embedded Compact 6 and 7. The radio modules work on platforms worldwide because they comply with all applicable regulations as set forth by agencies such as ETSI, the FCC, and TELEC and the necessary software is available for all relevant IEEE (News - Alert) and Wi-Fi Alliance standards as well as Cisco innovations.

Recently, Laird Technologies signed Alpha Micro Components as an embedded wireless value added reseller and introduced new dual-band antenna.
