Digital Route recently partnered with Procera Networks (News
- Alert) to showcase a solution that supports the evolution of machine to machine (M2M) technology from simple telematics for automotive dealers to complex offerings such as infotainment.
The combined solution powers advanced traffic monitoring capabilities including counting and control, which are expected to deliver more flexible business models for providers like Telenor (News - Alert) Connexion. The solution segments traffic, deploys counters to monitor usage and then activates controls when allowances are exceeded.
The offering is paving way for advanced telematics services beyond simple device metering for automotive dealers. Providers can monetize any type of activity between connected devices on any data network.
The connected car concept is a growing commercial market opportunity for auto manufacturers and dealers, but to capitalize on this opportunity, they need to build a relationship with M2M connectivity providers like Spireon who offer the necessary traffic segmentation. The technology encompasses three key components. First, the in-car connected device and its resident apps include a data volume display of real-time, updated usage information.
The second feature is DigitalRoute's MediationZone Policy Control and Usage Management solution, which manages integration between the in-car device data volume display and MediationZone as well as the seamless integration between the MediationZone and the Procera nodes.
Lastly, Procera's PacketLogic solution powers reliable classification of data traffic, and generates detailed billing records.
According to Robert Brunbäck, CMO, Telenor Connexion, “Enabling new and more dynamic business models for connected services, for example in the car, is of vital importance in today's fast-changing marketplace. Together with DigitalRoute and Procera we showcase a concrete example of how new service offerings can be realized. "
