Embedded M2M Solutions - Sprint Now Offers IMS UBI Intelligence Powered by DriveSync

The average consumer may be more interested in Sprint’s recent expansion of its LTE (News - Alert) and HD voice coverage, but the fact is the carrier has been much busier with the M2M side of its business lately. Whether it’s discussing the benefits of an integrated M2M ecosystem, or enabling M2M services like AppCard, Sprint (News - Alert) definitely has its hands full.

Most recently, Sprint began offering IMS UBI Intelligence through its Integrated Insurance Solution portfolio for auto insurance customers, provided by connected car company Intelligent Mechatronic Systems (News - Alert).

“Our auto insurance carriers have been requesting a single source for all their UBI (usage-based insurance) needs,” said Mohamed Nasser, director of M2M Product and Marketing at Sprint, in a statement. “We have selected IMS because they provide the most complete, turnkey solution available on the market today, including hardware, logistics, support, secure data warehousing and analytics.”

As more insurance companies customize their in-vehicle offerings for broad consumer groups — everyday commuters, new drivers and commercial fleets, for example — general interest in UBI has grown. IMS UBI Intelligence allows insurers to accurately develop a driver’s score based on their actual driving behavior, while also enabling the ability to discover new, related revenue streams. For customers, of course, this may result in lowered auto insurance costs.

Going beyond insurance, IMS is actually making its entire DriveSync connected car platform available through Sprint, giving insurers access to a fully customizable tool that can be deployed to a variety of customer segments.

To take full advantage of what the DriveSync platform has to offer — namely the delivery of a wide range of connected car services by leveraging the use of smartphones in vehicles — Sprint also plans to bring additional programs to its customers. Some examples include solutions for coaching young drivers, infotainment services, vehicle diagnostics, and fleet management solutions.
