Embedded M2M Solutions - Sprint Selects ItsOn Smart Service Platform

Over the past 12-15 months, Sprint (News - Alert) has been quite busy. We start with the fact that SoftBank, a Japanese telecommunications and Internet company, purchased a 70 percent share of Sprint. And just last week, Sprint announced that it may be close to a deal to acquire T-Mobile. In addition to all of that, Sprint is replacing much of its legacy infrastructure equipment and continues to stay at the forefront of M2M solutions.

All of this said, Sprint is clearly forging ahead, and nothing seems to be impeding the company from looking to strengthen and reinforce service innovations. That is why the nation’s No. 3 carrier announced that it has struck a deal to use the Smart Service Platform from ItsOn. This will allow for the deployment of new networks, along with new mobile services.

In a statement, David Owens, senior vice president of product development at Sprint, commented, “The ItsOn solution provides an end-to-end mobile network policy design, deployment and management platform with intelligent and granular control of mobile network communications. While other mobile operators stay with traditional solutions that require years to deploy new types of services, Sprint will reduce our deployment cycles down to a few weeks by virtualizing multiple service control capabilities with the ItsOn platform.”

This deal is a multi-year agreement which provides Sprint with the ability to design and implement service policy control for various data, text and voice services using ItsOn's Software-as-a-Service (SaaS (News - Alert)) cloud service. The plan is that Sprint will integrate the ItsOn cloud capabilities into its existing network architecture and the ItsOn Smart services device software will be embedded in all new Sprint Android (News - Alert) devices.

ItsOn is an American telecommunications company based in Redwood City, CA. It develops cloud-based solutions for enhancing the performance of mobile networks. ItsOn’s software platform gives mobile network operators the ability to offer granular and flexible, user-customizable services, which is exactly what Sprint needs in the midst of all that it is currently going through. The ItsOn virtual Smart Services platform will overlay the existing Sprint network infrastructure and it is designed to enhance network operations through a simple and centralized management interface called the Service Design Center.

The company’s CEO and founder, Greg Raleigh, said, “We are delighted that Sprint chose the ItsOn Smart Services platform to enhance its existing network infrastructure, deploy new services and simplify network operations. By enabling Sprint to deliver differentiated services to mobile users and reduce costs within their network, ItsOn is helping Sprint to lead the next generation of mobile services.”
