Embedded M2M Solutions - Mentor Graphics Releases Latest Mentor Embedded Nucleus Real-Time Operating System Platform

Mentor Graphics (News - Alert) Corporation, an enabler of embedded development of applications, asserted that the latest Mentor Embedded Nucleus Real Time Operating System (RTOS) platform can be utilized for smart device development of machine-to-machine (M2M) apps, specific to environments that do not have support environments.

The Nucleus RTOS now features zero configuration networking, mDNS and DNS service discovery (SD) support.

Nucleus, according to Mentor, is the first RTOS integrated with power management features such as DVFS, Deep Sleep Modes, and Power/Clock Gating for enabling engineers to take full advantage of the latest power saving technologies in today’s silicon.

With Nucleus, developers can deploy a kernel as small as 2k on a wide selection of hardware including MCU, DSP, FPGA and MPU. The newly released platform now also includes system trace technology and a graphical kernel configuration utility to optimize kernel builds and minimize memory footprint.

Scot Morrison, general manager of runtime solutions at Mentor Graphics Embedded Software Division, remarked, “Developers of smart networking-based devices and applications will benefit from the latest advancements in Nucleus and also be able to enjoy an increase in embedded development productivity.”

Notable features and benefits of Nucleus RTOS include a fully integrated Sourcery CodeBench development environment, and UI design tools with Eclipse-Based IDE; stable deterministic kernel with small memory footprint; power management APIs; industrial bus (I2C, SPI) connectivity; USB 2.0 and 3.0, along with networking and wireless connectivity; FAT and SAFE file system; extensive architecture support including ARM (News - Alert), MIPS and Power; and more.

Embedded developers may visualize and analyze system data for debug and performance optimization with system trace in Nucleus RTOS.

In related news, Mentor Graphics recently released GENIVI 2.0-Compliant IVI platform and the Mentor Graphics Embedded Linux Platform achieved Yocto Project 1.3 compatibility.
